Job Title: Estimator

Position Summary

The Estimator reports to the Estimating and Planning Manager and is responsible for the timely, accurate and cost-effective production cost estimates for customer printing jobs (both proposed and produced), based on estimating guidelines, to support production workflows which are profitable to the company and fair to the customers.

In this role the employee provides members of the organization with recommendations, information and services to ensure the completion of a job ticket within budget and in accordance to established policies and procedures.

The employee works with all levels of employees internally; and customers and vendors externally.

Principle Accountabilities

 Reviews and analyzes job costs and billings with sales force as requested and needed.

 Advises Account executive and Customer Services on an individual basis, on options and alternatives to customer-initiated job requirements in order to maintain efficiency and cost control consistent with the type and availability of company resources.

 Prepares production cost estimates within established procedures and guidelines with the delegated administrative authority, responsibility, and accountability necessary for carrying out the successful completion of requests for estimates (RFE) in a cost effective manner for both the company and the customer(s).

 Obtains vendor quotes for use in estimating and cost-effective purchasing, in accordance with established guidelines and procedures.

 Performs duties and responsibilities that may become necessary to meet the needs of the department as directed and evaluated by Estimating/Planning Manager.

 Attends and participates in workshops, continuing education programs, seminars, in –service training as approved.

 Conducts a meaningful program of self-development to prepare for greater responsibility.

 Provides leadership, through example, for employee attitudes and work habits.


High school education with two years of Graphic Arts education. Minimum of 3 years related estimating and purchasing experience, and knowledge of basic accounting principles and practices. Must be able to operate business office equipment, including the computer.

 Must have a working knowledge of printing industry and requirements of production processes throughout the company.
