#PrintHERStory Month

How did you get involved in print?

I had just graduated with a junior Accounting degree and interviewed for a position at Bolger in the Accounting department.  I didn’t get that position, but a month later was offered a different 6-month temporary position, and that was almost 37 years ago.

I started out in Accounting where I worked with payroll, and eventually worked on job costing and invoicing. It was really interesting to see all of the different projects and what it took to produce them. I also worked with our scheduler entering the “plant load” information, where I learned a lot about printing and about the presses.

I then moved to a Production position in our Mailing/Bindery area and ran our inkjet systems, inserters, helped as a bindery helper, and did some assembly work.

My next stop was our Fulfillment center where we handled all of the aspects of the inventory, customer service, picking, packing, shipping, and inventory control. We eventually split the management of the warehouse and I took on the management of customer service for our fulfillment clients.

Next up, Mailing.  I added on the role as Manager of our mailing account services team and used my mailing production experience to help build our team of Account Managers.

My role now has changed a bit, but I still manage customer service for fulfillment as a part of our Quality Control team at our Bolger Direct facility.

What advice would you share for young women considering or starting a career in print?

There are so many opportunities in this industry. Find what interests you and go for it.  The biggest challenge is to be willing and open to learning.

How have mentors helped your personal and career development?

I have worked with some amazing people in this journey and learned so much. Working for this family owned business, they emphasize the work/home balance.

What is your favorite part of the print industry?

I am a person that is always asking questions and wants to know why, so being able to stay with one company but still be exposed to so many aspects of this industry has been such a wonderful experience. The Fulfillment area is where my biggest strength is.
