#PrintHERStory Month

How did you get involved in print?

I have always been a creative person and enjoyed art. I got started by being a Graphic Designer out of college for a small mouse pad company that decided to move to International Falls. I had to find another job and landed  one at a small copy shop in St. Croix Falls, WI. I advanced my design skills by taking a Graphic Design position at Rapid Press Printing in Forest Lake, MN where I worked my way up to a Manager for 15 years. The last 3 years of it was spent in North Branch, MN running a second location. I made a career change to the Food Industry sourcing ingredients and recipe alterations for granola bars. I missed printing and landed a job at Greenhaven Printing for almost 5 years getting my sheet fed experience plus some. Now I’m at Bolger just over a month on the customer service Medical Team.

What advice would you share for young women considering or starting a career in print?

Ask questions and be ready for a fast paced environment. It is very rewarding when you see the final product. I have a sense of accomplishment when the customer’s express their satisfaction. Let me tell you that no two days are the same.

How have mentors helped your personal and career development?

I had a great mentor while working at Rapid Press. He taught me how things worked, kept giving me more responsibility, all while giving me support. I made mistakes and learned from them. I did lots of networking by being involved with local Chambers and Rotary groups. Since I was involved in the local community, it gave me my very own ‘village’ of support.

What is your favorite part of the print industry?

The part that I enjoy the most in the print industry is projects are always different. I enjoy learning processes, systems, and work flow.
